Deeper Waters
Often when the Lord calls us, he calls into deeper waters. Someplace beyond our comfort zone or what we would consider over our head. Look at Moses. Look at any of the patriarchs quite frankly.
One of the verses the Lord used to encourage me to go and plant a church was Luke 5:4 -
Luke 5:4 - When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Launch out into the deep. In other words, lets go out over your head. Our of your comfort zone.
I often think there are three stages we go through when the Lord calls us out of our lives and unto him.
Denial.
Anger/Fear
Submission
When the Lord used that verse, to confirm for me, that I was to go and plant a church, and that I was to lead and pastor a church, It went against everything my experience told me I could do. I am too old to do this. I don't have the experience. I don't have the masters degree. I had doubts and insecurities.
But yet, despite my doubts, I obeyed. Despite everything Peter’s experience at fishing told him, he obeyed, he said, “At your word I will let down the net” Something inside him told him, maybe you should listen to Jesus, and he did, and look at the results..
Peter had never seen so many fish! Nobody had.
This is the challenge for you, for me, for our church, to see God work in our lives by persevering through what may be difficult times, or times that our brain tell us that this is just not going to work, its foolish, I cant do it, whatever, because when God does work in our lives during these times, when he does miracles in our lives, it allows us to walk away from this world, from our worldy lives, and follow Jesus. Our endurance brings faith, because it is God’s faithfulness that makes our faith possible.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. - 1 Corinthians 15:58
God Bless,
Pastor Rich
